Yoga for Menstrual Cramps

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:12 pm by jessebaron

Everyone has their own home remedy for menstrual cramps.  Hot baths, or tea.  I think that a major dose of pain meds and chocolate will always do the trick.  However there is also a great yoga pose for those annoying, laborious, mother nature kicking your ass, cramps.  Dhanurasana (Bow Pose).

Lie on your belly with your knees bent. Reach back with your hands and take hold of your ankles. Keep your knees hip width apart. Inhale and  lift your heels away from your buttocks and, at the same time, lift your thighs away from the floor. Press your tailbone down toward the floor, and keep your back muscles soft. Continue lifting your heels and thighs higher. Draw the tops of your shoulders away from your ears. Gaze forward.

This pose is known to relieve menstrual discomfort.  And If all else fails, there is always the pain meds and chocolate.

I used to find Chinese hot-and-sour soup helpful for menstrual cramps.
